Cannot type in windows "type here to search" box

Hi,

I have Workstation 15 installed. The vms themselves are 14. VM 1 is clone of VM 2. On vm #2, I can type in the win10 "type here to search" textbox in the lower left of the screen. On vm #1, I can click in there, but it does not respond/accept any typing. I have re-started VM, re-installed vmware tools.

Why is this happening and how do I solve?

^^ I can click in there, but it does not accept my typing.

Password not accepted?

Hi,

I have a strange scenarios that I hope you may be able to help me with?

I have previously been using Oracle Virtual Box and have now migrated back to Workstation Pro 15

the process used to migrate my VMs is, using Virtual Box, “Copy“ the HDD to a VMDX format.  Create a new VM in workstation using an existing HDD and hey presto.

this process has worked on all bar 2 of my VMs so far.  My Windows u machine just fails to boot and may need a rebuild, however my server 2012 machine is the reason for the post.

the machine boots without issue but at the log in screen it will not accept my password?  I am using the same credentials as I have in Virtual Box (it is the same VM) but it will not accept my password in workstation?

has anyone come across this before or have any ideas?

thank you

regards

Bev

Wifi on my host interferes with the LAN connection on my VM

I seem to be having issues with the Wifi on my host PC interfering with the LAN communication on my VMWare. I am unable to communicate to any of my LAN devices using wire Ethernet on static IP addresses from my VM image. Magically everything work once I disable the Wifi on my host. This is repeatable. Does anyone why this is??

New Build, hardware choices

My current computer is reaching the end of it's service life...   with 32Gigs or memory it is constantly running at 95% and the VM performance is not what I would like.

So this brings me to the decision to build a new one!  While Gaming metrics are very easy to come across in researching CPU's, Virtualization metric of consumer CPU's is not.

Does anyone have a resource that would talk about how any CPU may be better than another?  I used to strictly be an Intel Consumer but after so many vulnerabilities and that patching efforts seem to have greatly affected my systems performance I am open to anything.

I am looking for the best CPU I can get for around $500.  I know more cores are better, however is there an architectural advantages between different CPU models, where can I find metrics and benchmarks on that?

Additionally, it is not all work and no play.  I do configure my computers to dual boot.  So that 95% of the time I am running VMware and running multiple vm's.  In face one of those VM's is my 'primary' workstation.  But I do set my computer to dual boot such that I can boot it in to a gaming/Video Editing profile where I have full access to the power of my machine.

Thank you for any guidance and/or references you can offer

Lost license key after minor version upgrade

Our central IT has an enterprise license agreement for VMWare Workstation.

I have a licensed copy of VMWare installed on my computer.  I upgraded to a new version with the same major number (from 14.3 to 14.7) via Workstation's updater.  This caused the license key to be lost.

Our IT help desk will not be able to help me.

I don't seem to be able to re-install 14.3.

What do I do now?

I have 3 VM machine on a local laptop 2 windows 7 and one windows 10

The two windows 7 machines start on boot up of the laptop and run in the background and I can not power them up or power them down. I try to kill them with Task Manager but they start up again.

I am not able to do any thing with these two VMs in the user interface.

The Windows 10 VM starts and stops with no problem.

Vmware Workstation 15: "Report battery information to guest" isn't working correctly.

I am running a Windows 10 host, and I want to use Kubuntu in a virtual machine. I also would like to go full screen, but the battery reported in the VM is always at 100%. I have searched for hours on google and nothing has come up. What do I do to fix the virtual battery so that it reflects the host battery?

Copy/Paste not working unless I run vmware-config-tools.py on boot

Hi all,

I rarely post on forums but I can't seem to find an answer to this, I'm running VMWare Workstation Pro 15 host and Kali Linux guest, the only way I can get copy/paste from host to guest and the other way around is to run vmware-config-tools.pl on boot, everything seems to work fine apart from copy and paste. Any suggestions as to why this might be the case or what I might be doing wrong?

At the moment I'm just running "root@kali:~# yes yes | vmware-config-tools.pl" on boot which does resolve the issue, but I wanted to see if I'm missing something obvious.

Thanks in advance

All VM's are stuck in loading screen prior to login

Hello, I am stumped when it comes to my issue, I'm hoping there is a fix!

I was running VMWare Fusion 11 on my MacBook Pro for my VM solution, but I just recently built a new desktop computer and I was hoping to transfer my VM's over for use in VMWare Workstation 15.1.0. However, when I try importing an OVA or even freshly installing a new VM through an ISO, I get stuck in a loading screen just before the login prompt. I have tried this with three VM's so far; Parrot Home 4.6, Xubuntu 19.04, and Fedora 30. I have since uninstalled and re-installed Workstation and have tried loading just Parrot OS again, but with the same result. I get no error messages on Workstation when starting the VM, however just before I get stuck in the loading screen hang, I see "SMBus Controller Not Enabled!". I am not sure if that has something to do with it but I thought I would point that out.

Computer Specs:

AMD Ryzen 3700X @ 3.6GHz

32GB DDR4-3200 RAM

MSI MPG X570 Motherboard

1TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2

2TB WD Blue 3D NAND M.2

5TB Toshiba 7200RPM HDD

Nvidia GTX 1070

I have attached the most recent log for my last attempt in booting Parrot OS. Thank you all ahead of time!

Missing context menu, with Workstation Pro on Linux Mint.

I've just upgrade my systems to Linux Mint 19.1 and Workstation 15 Pro and I'm seeing a very odd behavior.

My host is Linux Mint 19.1 MATE (Tessa).

On it, I'm running VMware Workstation 15 Pro (Version 15.1.0 build 13591040).

And in it, I'm running a virtual with Linux Mint 19.1 MATE (Tessa).

This is a dual monitor configuration, and if I display the Linux virtual in Workstation Pro, set it to full screen, cycle multiple monitors, and set the virtual to exclusive mode, the Linux virtual takes over the full display, just as if I were running it on the hardware directly, which is what I want,

except:

The right-mouse button context menu on the desktop only works on the left-hand monitor, it does not on the right.

I've tried installing the VMWare Tools from Workstation Pro's virtual ISO (VM=>Reinstall VMware Tools) and I've tried installing the open-vm-tools package (apt install open-vm-tools - version 2:10.3.10-1-ubuntu.18.04.1 amd63), and they both display the same behavior.

I did not see this with Linux 17.3 and Workstation 12 Pro.

It's a minor issue, but I thought I should report it.

How to Fix Dell Printer Errors Code 077-900

The users of Dell printers often have a high possibility of coming across the error code 077-900. The users can easily solve this issue using the steps given below:

  • The users must start by removing all the cables that are connected with the printer.
  • Now open the rear access panel of your printer, and check whether there is any paper or any kind of debris that is jammed inside the printer.
  • If you do find any such thing, then manually remove it carefully without causing any damage.
  • It is also advised that the users clean the feed roller for your printer.
  • Also, ensure that you boot your device in the customer mode to be able to run the Manual Feed Test.
  • If you still hear any irregular sound, then replace the paper tray.
  • Finally, close the access panel, reconnect the USB and Ethernet cables and then given a test page command.

If there is some issue which you are facing while following the steps mentioned, then the users can promptly connect with Dell Online Support. By doing so, you would get all the required assistance.

No mouse when opening a VM

This problem appeared with one of my VMs several weeks ago. I do not experience the same problem on any of the other VMs I have. Up to this point this VM (Windows 10) worked fine - the problem just appeared one morning and continues to occur although I over time I have narrowed down the problem and have a workaround.

When starting the VM it opens with no mouse functionality. [Ctrl] + [Alt] transfers the mouse control to the native desktop but the reverse does not return mouse control in the VM. In all other respects the VM desktop appears fine; I can navigate (of a sort) with the cursor keys. I have tried various actions - obviously closing and reopening the VM through to rebooting the laptop. At some point the mouse returned - for the session - but would again be missing when I next started the VM. I raised a ticket with our IT Support but knowing that they offer little help with VMs I also contacted vmware. Although I don't believe we have a service contract in the past they have been helpful to a struggling user so...

First it was pointed out the version of Workstation Pro, V12.5, that I was using was no longer supported and I should upgrade to V15.I agreed to contact our IT Support desk about this. However it was also suggested that I upgrade vmware tools which we did albeit with some issues that caused loss of mouse control on the native desktop as well! Once resolved matters appeared ok and for a day or so normal service resumed. But then the mouse vanished once more. Meanwhile I requested that Workstation V14.1 be installed (as it seems my company do not as yet have access to V15). Some weeks later this was done but alas it did not solve the issue. Hence I decided to experiment further and this is what I found.

If I start up the VM the when the windows login screen appears I am unable to reveal the password entry box by mouse clicking on the VM display. However [Return] or [Space] reveals the box and I can type in my password. However I can then only enter this by [Return] - the mouse do not allow me to select the Submit button to the right of the typed entry. Once the VM is open I have no mouse control within the VM but can still use the mouse to select options from the vmware menu. If I Restart the VM I a mouse click reveals the password entry box, a further mouse-click enables me to submit the password and the VM opens with full mouse control.

So (1) has anyone else observed this behaviour and (2) if so is there a fix (other than rebuilding the VM image?

Chris

I have created small lab environment using workstation 14.0 Pro . There are 3  Windows 2016 VM inside the workstation and one physical  server ( Xen Server ).

I  wish to configure my network setup communicate all the host each other with same network configurations and using one network card.

1) When I used NAT option  (Workstation)

All the VMs communicate each other without any issue but my my physical server didn't respond.(  that server also in same network)

2) When I used Bridge option

All the VMs can communicate with Physical server but each VM can't communicate each other.

Is there any possible way to setup my network communicate each other with one network.

VMware Workstation Pro 15.1 search opens multiple tabs

$

I have just upgraded to VMware Workstation Pro 15.1 from version 11 on RHEL7.4. I connect to a remote server (vcenter 6.7) that has 75 or so VMs running. I use the library to select the VMs I wish to open. When I type a search to filter down to the VMs that I want to use, it will open several tabs, many of which are not included in the final search without clicking on them in the library. They may have been highlighted at one point as I typed the search, though I am not sure. This is repeatable on all 6 hosts that I installed workstation on.

Has anyone seen this behavior before, and if so, how did you stop workstation from opening tabs before you click on the VM in the library?
