VMware Workstation 5.0 Keyboard Shortcuts
and they're very handy.
My work system is a Windows 7 Professional system, which doesn't support multiple monitors over RDP, so I run a virtual copy of it locally, on my 16GB laptop.
I use 3 efficient monitors, and spend a lot of hours on my personal Windows 8.1 workstation desktop, and other parts of my day on my work-related, encrypted, full screen Windows 7 VM, running under the VMware Workstation Technology Preview 2014. One thing that'd sure be helpful would be some way to quickly toggle back and forth between these worlds.
There are bits of refinement that'd make it a whole lot faster and easier to toggle between these worlds. Here's 3 related suggestions, to discuss, and/or consider for future product releases:
Currently, I use a shortcut to the Windows 7 VMX that I keep on my desktop, and assigned a hotkey to it. In my case, it's Ctrl+Alt+I.
1) Would be better if hotkey assignment to particular VMs was built into the product
Perhaps through right-click menu on Library entries.
2) There is no simple fast way take myself out of full screen mode without leaving the title bar visible, or waiting for auto-hide title bar drop down, then minimizing the VM
I'd much rather have my full screen session as is, running across all 3 monitors, with window positions left alone throughout my workday. A native hotkey function that'd minimize the current fullscreen VM would be extremely handy, especially if it didn't change the triple fullscreen layout at all, and allow me to return right back to where I was, without impact.
Given I toggle several dozen times per day, it's be much more useful and faster to have a hotkey assignment. Unity Mode isn't an option for my use case.
3) Please leave multiple monitor full screen sessions as-is, even after suspending the host operating system
Currently, the behavior coming out of hibernate or suspend is that VMware Workstation (and Player) revert to a single screen VM. This means all windows are repositioned in the that VM, which discourages the use of sleep mode energy savings.
