VMware Workstation 15.04 Exits unexpectedly on Windows 10 Workstation

This problem of unexpected shutdown on the Lenovo P330, also occurs on a Dell Inspiron 3655 with an AMD A8 processor, using Windows 10 Pro.

Originally I was hoping it was just an AMD issue, but clearly it happens on Intel as well.  This NEVER happened when I ran the Dell as an Ubuntu Mate box bare metal..

VMware Workstation never crashes on Linux.  What is the explanation for these intermittent VMware crashes on Windows 10?

VMWare Workstation Pro 14 installation issue with Fedora 30

Recently upgraded to Fedora 30 and now VMWare Workstation Pro 14 doesn't start. Tried reinstalling it, results no different!

Is it so that Workstation Pro 14 doesn't support Fedora 30 or is it something that needs to be done which I might be missing out?

Upon installation, the setup indicates that it need to install some modules onto kernel which fails. Below screenshot for reference and the corresponding log has been attached to this post.

VMWare Windows 10 move to other PC

Hi,

I just installed my new notebook with the same version of VMWare workstation as on the old notebook.

I shut down my both VMWares Windows 7 and Windows 10 and copied the files from the old PC to the new PC.

The Windows 7 starts without any problems but the Windows 10 starts with a loop and always tell me "Automatische Reparatur wird vorbereitet". At the old notebook the Windows 10 starts without problems.

What could be the problem for this and how get I started the Windows 10 in the same way as on the old notebook?

I'm attempting to launch an OVA image but I keep getting prompted with the following error. I'm not sure what else to try.

  • I checked windows Optional features, and Hyper-V is not installed.
  • I checked the Bootloader and Hyper-V is set to off
  • I also checked Device Guard and Memory integrity is set to off.

  Any thoughts?

See below for the various setting from the machine.

Workstation can't open and power up virtual machines

$

When I start Workstation Pro and try to create new virtual machine, it doesn't add it to the list under My Computer. When I try to open that virtual machine manually, it doesn't want to add it to the list either. The only way I can add virtual machines to the list is if I scan for virtual machines. Then it adds virtual machines to the list. But even after that I can't power them - power button is greyed out when I press on virtual machines. If I press on My Computer, power button changes its state to enabled but when I click on it, nothing happens. If I click on virtual machines after that, power button remains enabled but when I click on it, nothing happens.

Here's a video demonstration of that:

Workstation worked in the past but I haven't used it in like half a year. Virtual machines I already have had with systems installed don't work either, same issues. And if I choose to install Windows during installation of virtual machines, nothing changes - it doesn't add virtual machines to the list, it only opens them with a scan, and even after I add them, it doesn't start them.

Services screenshot:

mmc_KEhQG5MTSH.png

I have virtualization enabled in BIOS.

I tried reinstalling Workstation and repairing installation in Programs and Features in Windows Control Panel.

Attached log file from the video. What you see on the video is 14:17:16-14:18:40 in the log file.

Attached vmsupport.zip file, too. This one isn't from the session you see in the video but I clicked on the same buttons as in the video. Workstation also refused to see virtual machines(that I added with Scan for Virtual Machines menu) in the Collect Support Data window:

Any suggestions how I can fix this problem? How do I make my virtual machines work?

Correlation of Virtualization with Graphics Processor and Optane Memory

$

Hi,

I recently visited local stores for purchasing a new laptop. I am not a gamer. I have to purchase a laptop with good configuration so that I can run 3-4 virtual machines (Windows 10 & Windows Server 2016) on VMware Workstation. That’s why, I planned for a laptop with i5 8th Gen (i5-8250U), 4GB AMD Graphics and 16GB RAM but because of Optane memory concept, I got confused. I read some articles for Optane memory.

i5-8250U supports Optane Memory, Speed Shift Technology, Hyper-Threading Technology, Virtualization Technology (VT-x), Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d) and VT-x with Extended Page Tables.

However, at the end, I am still confused because of correlation of Optane Memory with Graphics Processor for virtualization process.

How Optane memory concept is helpful for my requirement and

On the behalf of Optane memory should I compromise with Graphics processor and RAM?

Pls guide me.

Thanks in advance.

I understand the guidelines as far as memory allocation, of maximum 2.7 GB, but what about storage increase and add another cpu and multiple cores for a total of 2 cpu and 8 cores total. would it help?

Hi,

I am unable to uninstall VMware Workstation 12 Pro (12.5.7 build-5813279).

The option to uninstall it is disabled in the Windows Control Panel

and the VMware Workstation 12 Pro's installation software doesn't include an option to uninstall the previously installed software.

All it says it this software doesn't allow downgrading.

My OS = Windows 10 Home (Version 1809,  Build 17763.557), 64-bit OS. 12 Gb RAM.

I want to install the latest Windows update  = Windows 10, version 1903 and I am unable to do it as this

VMware software needs to be uninstalled first before Windows installer can install the software.

Please help asap.

Thank you

Virtual PCs and bridge to real network

$

Hello everyone,

This is my first time with WMware Workstation - so sorry for a bit stupid question for skilled users

a bit of backgroud:

I have WMware installed on normal PC with WIN10 x64.

In WMware there are 3 virtual PCs running on WMware correctly (everyone contains Ubuntu installation with data collection services that should be collected through network).

Every VPC has different role in the final app & every of them has it´s own web based app for configuration the specific tool.

Q1: I have set every VPC network setting to "bridge" mode, that means all of them should be visible from the rest of network - am I right?

Q2: Is it possible to set the WMware to allow WIN10 to connect to the VPCs? I would need to use the same PC as a client in the same network as all of VPCs are located in.
I need to be able to customize the settings in web based app mentioned before. I believe there is a way to use second PC in network as a client, but I would need a bit more "compact" solution.

Hope I was able to describe my problem exactly enough

Thanks for an advice.

Have a great day.

Regards Ondrej

vmrun command line support for shared VM's

$

I am trying to show a list of running shared VM's,something like:

vmrun -T ws-shared -h https://localhost:8443/sdk list

For example "vmrun -T ws list" works fine for local VM's but doesn't list the shared ones that are running.

I have tried looking on google for answers, most suggest ws-shared option - but I always get unable to connect.

C:\Users\talle>vmrun -T ws-shared -h "https://localhost:8443/sdk" -u talle list

Host password:

Unable to connect to host.

Error: The operation is not supported

I can access the website (blank page) using Firefox - no username required, but VMware 15 pro is setup to allow administrators access to everything by default and I am an administrator on the box.

Vmware Workstation 15 Pro (GNU/Linux) does not Display CPU/Ram Usage when connected to an ESXi host

I updated to VMWare Workstation 15 Pro and i am using it to connect against 2 different ESXi Hosts (6.7.0 Update 1 (Build 11675023))

Since Workstation 15 i cant see the CPU/Ram Usage anymore. Its just not displayed.

Was that feature removed? Is this a bug in the product? or a local issue on my site?

When connecting directly to the Web-Interface of the ESXi Hosts i can see the CPU/Ram usage

I dont have a windows system here so i cant test VmWare Workstation on that system.

maybe someone of you was facing the same issue and have an idea how to solve it.

Best Regards

Michael

By mistake have deleted all files(what was allowed) for my VM while using it. Now, of cause, can't turn it on. Tried to recover files - didn't help, got them back but anyway not load up. All I got now, is just a bunch of .vmdk files.

Someone had such kind of problem? Really need a resolve :-(

USB passthrough not working

$

System:

I have VMWare workstation pro 15 : version 15.1.0 build-13591040 fully installed with the current VMware tools running in the guest

Guest OS is Windows 10 pro

Host OS Linux Mint 19.1 completely patched & kernel 4.15.0-52-generic    with AMD Ryzen 1600 & 32 Gigs of ram. Otherwise working flawlessly outside of this feature issue in VMWare workstation 15. Virtualization is turned on in the B450 bios.

Problem:

I cannnot get USB passthrough working at all. I have a USB headset and USB drive to get passed through to the guest OS and its not working.

Detail:

In the VM settings, USB 3.0 compatability is loaded and boxes are checked green for "automaticaly connect new USB devices" and also "show all usb input devices". I recently also checked "share bluetooth devices with the virtual machine" but I dont think that is related to basic USB passthrough.

Note: When I use VirtualBox on this same PC, the USB devies show up just fine in those guests.

Note2: I am a Linux newbie so go easy on me with the suggestions as I am just learning how to do stuff in Linux shell.

cannot open shared VM from outside firewall

$

I am running Vmware Workstation on a Ubuntu desktop in my house.  I configured my home router to ip forwarding outside request for port=44 (my VMserver port is 44), so that I am able to remotely connect to my VMware server when I am outside of my house.

My problem is that I am not able to open a Shared VM after I power it on.

When I am in my house, I am able to open a shared VM without any problem.  However, I cannot open a shared VM when I am outside of my house.

I suspect there are other ports associated with opening a shared vm, but I cannot find any info.

Please help!
