Guys,
My user has a RHEL 6 (2.6.32-431.1.2.el6.i686) host and a Windows 7 64bit VM that is having issues with kernel panics. We just created him a new Windows VM from our RIS server. Everything went smoothly, until we installed the VMware tools (64bit). We are using VMWare Workstation 10.0.1.
During the VMWare tools install we received a kernel panic. This is the first time I've ever seen a kernel panic from a vmware tools install on a fresh and clean VM.
A few of my users have been seeing kernel panic's like this on our Windows 7 VM since upgrading to the latest kernel. All of their other VM's that don't have VMWare Tools installed, run perfectly.
We have tried removing modules (i.e. vmblock.ko,vmci.ko,vmmon.ko,vmnet.ko,vsock.ko) from the latest kernel, and rebuilding, but it still keeps happening. We have manually uninstalled/reinstalled Workstation 10 - same issue. We also booted the Windows 7 VM into safe mode, typed "msconfig", and unchecked VMWare tools from startup. The VM actually launched okay until we tried to update vmware tools. We received a kernel panic and now that Windows 7 VM is stuck in a loop of trying to repair itself. This is initially why I created a new VM.
Can you guys advise? TIA
