I have just come across an annoying visual bug with VMWare Workstation 10.0.1 for Windows. Actually, the problem comes from VMWare Tools provided by Workstation 10.0.1. This is my whole story:
I opened an old Windows Server 2003 R2 VM in Workstation 10.0.1. I saw that its VMWare Tools is pretty old (8.1.4) and drag-n-drop from host is not working all the time, so I decided to upgrade it. Once it's installed, every time when WS2003R2 boots, between Windows Logo and GINA, the screen turns to black and it extends to the whole width of my display area. I have double monitors. So the black VM screen is very very large, more than 2500 pixels in width (as shown in the attached image)
If my hard drive is not busy, this extra large black screen only lasts a few seconds. But if my hard drive is occupied, the black screen could stay on my monitors for more than a few minutes and that can be quite scary
This bug is reproducible because I have snapshots in the VM. If I go back to one snapshot with old VMWare Tools, there's no big black screen.
