VMWare USB Arbitration Service blocking USB Devices on W7 Host

Good afternoon, I'm sure this one has been batted about, but I'm at the end of my rope with this one and I can't find an answer anywhere. Probably because I'm not great at searching.

This issue seems to happen over time. With a fresh PC and a fresh installation I have no problems, but over time more and more of my USB devices stop being detected by my host. That is, until I switch off all the VMWare services running in the background.

Here's my spec:

Win7 Pro x64 fully updated as of time of writing

VMware Workstation 9.0.2 build-1031769

When I switch off the service with VMware 9 running, remove and re-insert the offending device, it detects perfectly. When I restart the service the device does not get picked up on my host. It sits there as an unknown device or has a basic description of what it is (SD Card reader or something like that) and will not install. Stopping the Service and re-inserting the device brings it back to life.

It used to work, but as time passes more and more USB devices stop being detected by my host. It's weird.

The devices have also stopped connecting to my VMs, they are all XPSP3, but even if they are not running the problem still occurs. The devices show up on the status bar in the bottom right, but do not connect and do not display any errors when they fail to connect.

My colleague runs Workstation 9.0.0 build-812388 and all my troublesome devices work fine for him. Before I remove my more up-to-date version of Workstation, has anyone else had this issue and can anyone help me with a solution?

Kind regards,

Matt
