I have a number of vmware linux ubuntu guests and recently I've taken to updating the VMWare Tools. I see this or some variation of it in my guests:

The module vmci has already been installed on this system by another installer
or package and will not be modified by this installer.

The module vsock has already been installed on this system by another installer
or package and will not be modified by this installer.

The module vmxnet3 has already been installed on this system by another
installer or package and will not be modified by this installer.

The module pvscsi has already been installed on this system by another
installer or package and will not be modified by this installer.

The module vmmemctl has already been installed on this system by another
installer or package and will not be modified by this installer.

I don't know why I see that stuff since the only thing I've ever used to install VMWare Tools.is itself. Is this a common issue? I can recall seeing similar messages several years ago for some different older VMs as well. What is the impact of the modules not being updated? Does anyone else use Ubuntu in VMWare and do you have any problems like this? Besides this problem I also had a shared folders problem which I fixed after following the directions in this thread:

Anyone able to get Shared Folders working?
