Missing VMX File after moving harddrive

Hello

I have a problem with my Windows 8 VM, it stopped working when I moved the physical SSD into another SATA port on the motherboard. I moved because it was running on the SATA2 instead of the SATA3 and its an SSD.

When I opened up VM Workstation 10 I was expecting to see the VM waiting to be resumed (it was suspended before I move SSD) but there was only the start option. I pressed start and it gave me a message

"Could not open virtual machine: E:\windows 8.1\Windows 8.1.vmx"

File not found

Then I looked in the directory and it was noware to be seen! Its just disappeared. I noticed that there is a file with suspend in the name, this too has disappeared at some point.

I have tried to recreate the .vmx file following these instructions:

VMware KB: Recovering a lost or deleted Workstation virtual machine configuration file

I used the same directory and name as the current VM. When I tried the VM I got this error:

"The file specified is not a virtual disk"

I then tried the again, this time using the same directory but a different name.

This time it loaded up but took ages, when it finally got to the sign in screen I put my password in as normal but when I looked through the C:\ drive all my programs and documents were missing!!

Really starting to panic now, I have loads of work on this VM. I have created snap shots but they are not showing up inside VMWare, the files are still there.

I someone would like to look via skype or team viewer please let me know and I will setup a screen share.

Thanks for reading, really hope someone can help.

James
