I have a Samsung Laptop (see details below). I use it continually when travelling away with work to do evaluations and run test lab environments. If I compare the performance to my home ESXi test bed when running multiple VM's, it is very poor.
I do
- minimise the applications running external to VMWare Workstation 10 to conserve system resources but I am always suspicious of Windows hunger for resources.
- keep the number of concurrent VM's to an absolute minimum
I am told by VMWare support that my license is OS agnostic, i..e. I could run it on Unix if I wish.
This is a general question really around the worth of re-installing the Samsung laptop with Unix (or other OS) and running VMWare Workstation 10 on it.
Is it worth it or am I just expecting too much of the laptop?
If it is worth it , what Unix version would people recommend?
OS - Windows 7 Professional
Model - Samsung N400B2B-A04UK laptop
Processor - Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @2.50GHz
Ram - 8GB
I can scrub that laptop as I do have an older Acer laptop that is fine for day to day administrative use that does not like 64 bit OS VMs and is not particularly useful for much other than simple 32 bit test VMs.
Thanks in anticipation
