New user having problems with Workstation - Copy/Paste limits and Default Host Application

I downloaded VMWare Workstation this past week and have been fairly happy with the trial so far (besides some obvious disk thrashing).

However, I have run into some issues with the Workstation interacting with the host.

First, the copy/paste feature seems to work perfectly for small amounts of text. This however gets complicated when trying to copy a large amount of text. I copied some data from SQL Management Studio, pasted it into a text editor which tells me it's 7 million bytes (7MB) and that it copied/pasted locally successfully. Then I go to the host and try pasting the data into another text editor on that end and nothing happens. With trial and error I found that the limit is around 4 million bytes of text allowed to be pasted on the host via the guest (this is a text only limit, if I save the file and copy the file itself, the file copies fine). Does anyone know if this is a built-in limit or is there a tweak I can apply to get more data transferred?

Second, I can barely find any information on the "Default Host Application" feature in Workstation. Everything I find is typically Fusion, or to a Linux host. I am trying to get this to work from Windows to Windows (8 on both ends). Shared Folders is enabled, and I've configured C:\ to be shared as "System" (this seems to share the Host's C: with the guest, I have no idea how to get it reversed). When I open a .xls file in the Guest and select Default Host Application, I get the error message "The file (file) is not in a folder shared with the host and cannot be opened by the host." A. Is this supported in Workstation and B. How would I go about configuring a Shared Folder for a guest drive that can be opened in the host to get this feature to work?

Thanks!
