PMA = Physical Machine A (Win7 x64 & VMware Workstation 10)
PMB = Physical Machine B (WinXP x86 & VMware Player Plus 6)
PMC = Physical Machine C (Win7 x64 & VMware Workstation 10)
VMX = Virtual Machine X (RHEL5 x86)
VMY = Virtual Machine Y
VMZ = Virtual Machine Z
I created a VMX with Red Hat Linux 5 32-bit, into a PMA. This machine will have an Oracle Database system.
I configured all Oracle pre-requisites for Oracle software, into the PMX.
I cloned VMX to create a VMY. I installed Oracle Database software and created a database into the VMY. I executed all the installation of the Database products into VMY on the same host PMA.I copied this VMY on 20 computers (Win7 x86 & VMware Player Plus 6) for a training event. The training event did not include the creation of new databases nor installation of new products. The practices developed on this VMY (training event) only included using of the products database already installed. Everything was fine.
I cloned again the VMX to create the VMZ.I installed the first 2 oracle products (Grid Infrastructure & Database Server) on the VMZ on the host PMA. Then I copied this VMZ to the same 20 computers of the before training event. Same computers (Win7 x64 & VMware Player Plus 6). During the training we tried to create a new database on the VMZ. But some of the processes were successfull and other failed. Under this inconsistent scenario, I tested by my self. I copied the original VMZ (in the same state as I copied to the training computers) to a PMB. Everything worked well (the database creation worked fine). Then I repeat the same test copying the VMZ to the PMC, but the same create database process failed! I tested by myself into several computer of the training classroom and it failed on the first 3 computers (Win7 x64 & VMwarePlayer Plus 6). If I reapeat all the processes into the original host PMA, everything works well.
What could cause this inconsistent behavior?
In all cases the already installed products in the base VMZ worked well in the new hosts... but the following tasks are the ones which have an inconsistent behavior.
This is a crazy thing.
