Autofit Guest stopped working after VMWare Tools update

I updated Workstation from version 8 to 10.  I had several Windows 7 x64 VMs that I then updated with the latest VMWare Tools (v9.6.1.1378637).  Now one of the VMs will not auto resize properly.  (Three other VMs with the same O/S resize properly and one with Windows Server 2008 resizes properly.)  Workstation is set to Autosize > Autofit guest.  The VM resized properly before VMWare Tools was updated.  That is, the autosize feature worked for the VM within Workstation 10 when the previous version of VMWare Tools was still installed.  Upgrading VMWare Tools triggered the behavior.  When I use the “Fit Guest Now” command the VM's display flashes but does not resize.  When the Workstation window is resized the guest does not resize.

I've tried the following:

  • Uninstalled & reinstalled VMWare Tools.
  • Confirmed VMWare Tools (vmtoolsd.exe) is set to start automatically and is running.
  • Changed the VM's display settings to a custom resolution then back to "Use host setting for monitors".
  • Attempted to change the guest's resolution but it won't go above 1920 x 1440 (it should be set to 2556 x 1496 based on the resolution of other VMs that are resizing properly).

Thanks for any suggestions!
